This photograph is the best one I've ever seen of my great grandma, Martha (Skiles) Fife. I've wondered if other cousins might have better ones. You can see her information from my genealogy database here, and her Find a Grave entry here.
"My" Martha Skiles was from Kentucky, but I believe her family was originally from Pennsylvania (Lancaster/Chester area). I read somewhere that all of the Skiles in this country may be related. Some of the names that recur in my line are Thomas and Henry; I think there are also some collateral Jacobs.
I have archived here the entries from two other journals I've kept about my genealogy research. I started out on AOL with Digging for Roots. Sadly, AOL Journals no longer exist. Later, I decided to use my blog on MySpace as a backup for the earlier one, but that's turned out to be a big mistake! I use a lot of links when I write, and MySpace blocks almost all outside links. Yuck! You can see what I mean at: The "New" Digging for Roots.
I don't remember the last time I signed into MySpace!
The earliest entries here show the dates and times that they were posted on MySpace and clicking on the title should take you to that blog. If a post was originally on AOL, there will be a link within the entry that will take you there.
I plan to make new entries soon, but you know what well intentions pave.
One of my ggg=grandmothers was named Martha Skiles; she married a Harris. I love the thoughtful pose of this picture.
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool! She wasn't from western Pennsylvania by any chance? I'm desperate to find out more about my Skiles relatives!
