Smile for the Camera: Costume

The word prompt for the 10th Edition of Smile For The Camera is Costume? No, not as in Halloween. Costume as in dress in general; especially the distinctive style of dress of a people, class, or period.

I don't have a lot of photos of my family members that seem to represent a particular period in time, but I finally decided that these two shots fit that theme.

These photos show my grandma and her sister, Genieve (above), and Grandma alone to the left. According to the writing which you can see on one photo, they were taken in Harrisburg (Pennsylvania) in September of 1925. I think everyone will agree that we don't see people today dressed like Grandma and Aunt Genieve. I like the way they looked, and I'll never forget that when my mother-in-law (a lady who was born in 1923) saw these pictures, exclaimed that their clothes were "so stylish"!

  1. Yes, they look lovely in their outfits. I also like their hats.

  2. I really love your pictures. The cape that your Grandma has on looks so neat and the hats are wonderful. I really like the buildings they are standing in front of, too. I guess Harrisburg was a pretty big metropolis, even then.
